The latest developments in besieged Homs - 24/07/2012
For the 49th day in a row the province of Homs has been under a brutal military campaign that has targeted civilian homes, buildings, schools, mosques, churches, roads and farming lands. The military campaign comprises of mortar shells, missiles, heavy artillery, heavy gunfire, snipers, incendiary weapons, helicopter gunships and now war planes.
The humanitarian situation is dire with civilians fleeing their homes being targeted in the villages and farming lands. Civilians fleeing are sleeping in alley ways and open lands suffering a lack of medicines, food, water, electricity, gas, diesel and petrol.
Up to this moment, 13 areas have been shelled:

• Talbiseh
• Baba Amr

IMPORTANT:
Homs Central Prison update: A phone call was made by Syrian Revolution General Commission activist Hadi Al-Abdullah to a prisoner inside the besieged prison. They have been without food or water or electricity from yesterday and they are now hungry especially in the month of Ramadan. There are women and children in the prison who are struggling to cope. The siege continues with a risk of a massacre taking place. Urgent help is needed to protect the prisoners.
3 prisoners were martyred this evening as the attempt to storm the prison intensified and bullets as well as tear gas were fired onto prisoners, over 40 were reported to have suffered some form of suffocation to the gas and there were 9 reported injuries at minimum. The situation is worsening by the hour.

• Alrastan:
The city remains under extremely brutal shelling which includes tanks, missile launchers, artillery, mortar shells and aircrafts. The number of injuries increases day by day with women and children the main targets as shelters are hit during the attacks. The shelling from regime aircrafts continues with the field hospital struggling to cope. The FSA continue to push back regime forces who keep attempting to storm on land, thus the regime can only attack from the sky and with shells. The situation is dire and they are in need of urgent help. There are 6 martyrs up to this hour and dozens of injuries. Dozens of injuries fell as the day went by as a new massacre was committed in the Ghurnata village based near Alrastan leading to the death of 4 civilians.

Regime shelling on the village has continued with mortar shells and artillery as well as war planes all being used on civilians from the airforce-defence battalion [base 743] belonging to the Assad regime. Electricity is still cut to the area. Several injuries fell. Regime war planes flew over both Alghanto and Aldar Alkbere in the evening with Ahmad Mohamad Shahada Alnayef being martyred and he is from Aldar Alkbereh.

Since 4pm the artillery battalion positioned in the neighborhood belonging to the Assad regime fired 14 shells onto Alrastan and Talbiseh. The security forces raided at 2:30am the Alradwan tower in the neighborhood with knowledge that no one was detained. The College sniper has been firing onto homes constantly.
• Alqusair:
Alam Amoon was martyred from the village of Joseyeh by a sniper shot at the Alnemr checkpoint that belongs to the Assad forces. He is the brother of martyr Nader Amoon. Regime forces today shelled the largest and main mosque in Alqusair, which is one of the oldest. It was hit with 2 shells - 1 on the minaret and 1 on the south western side of the mosque. Dr Zakariya Mohamad Alja'our was martyred today along with Akram Mufeed Raad, Raw'aa Najeeb Raad and Yahya Hussein Alkhleif aged 7 and he is the son of Raw'aa. Over 18 were injured from them women and children and critically injured.
